How to Keep Succulents Happy Indoors

Growing succulents indoors can be a bit tricky. But with these simple tips, you'll be able to care for your indoor collection.  They don't always make the easiest house plants, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't grow them!

It's hard for succulents to get enough light indoors. Place them near a window that gets light all day, or the brightest spot you have.

Lots of Light

Soak the roots, then let the soil dry out. Water again a few days after it's dry. Watering daily is the quickest way to kill them.

How to Water

Succulents don't like sitting in soggy soil. Skip glass jars and terrariums, and use a pot with a drainage hole so the soil can dry out.

Pots need a drainage hole

Use a gritty, well-draining soil so water flows through quickly. It keeps the roots from staying wet, which helps prevent rot and gnats.

Use Gritty Soil

If your succulent starts stretching out and reaching, it's not getting enough light. Move it somewhere brighter to keep it compact.

Watch for stretching

Get the light, water, and pot right, and your succulents will be happy growing right inside your home.
