I am so excited to share this new book with you! Megan George was kind enough to send me an advance copy of her book, Modern Terrarium Studio, so I could review it and share it with you. First off, let me say that this is a book you’ll definitely want to add to your collection. It is the perfect resource for anyone looking to create a terrarium of any shape or size. Also, at the end of the post, Megan has offered to give one of you lucky readers a DIY Air Plant Kit!

Modern Terrarium Studio is such a helpful resource for anyone looking to make a terrarium with succulents or air plants!

One of the sections I found most helpful is right at the beginning: basic layering materials. This section gives a general overview of what a the elements in a terrarium and discusses why they are necessary or helpful. It seems a lot of tutorials found online tell you what you need, but not why. The why is so important, especially for terrariums! The great thing is you can buy most of the materials you need in her Etsy shop!

Unlike here on the blog where I stress having a drainage hole in everything, this book uses containers without drainage. I love that Megan talks about the reason for this and how to keep plants alive in this environment. While it can be a struggle to keep succulents alive in containers without drainage, this book will set you up for success by providing detailed care information. I’ve been wanting to start a collection of air plants for a while now and this book covers caring for them as well!

Modern Terrarium Studio - Wooden Geometry

The introductory chapter is filled with great information that will help you keep your terrariums alive. After you’ve devoured all the information there, you’ll arrive in the projects section. Megan has a great eye for design and has filled this section with some stunning terrariums.

Modern Terrarium Studio - Plant World

I love the wild or natural look of each project. They look like they were taken straight from nature and placed on a shelf in the home. Each project lists out the materials you’ll need, including the exact plants used in her projects. The step-by-step directions are detailed and easy to follow. She has a lot of  variety in her projects and some unique ideas as well! I love this necklace terrarium. It’s such a fun idea! I think I need to make one for the next conference I go to 🙂

I also loved this book because it has beautiful photography, and I’m sure you can guess that photography is a big selling point for me. Even if a book has good information, if the pictures aren’t great I can’t get myself to read it. That was not an issue at all with this book. Each page has bright, beautiful photos that are sure to inspire and motivate you. So, if you need a new book to read or  have been considering making a terrarium with succulents or air plants, this is the book for you!

Modern Terrarium Studio - Desert Under Glass

The book goes live June 26, but you can order a copy on Amazon right now! Trust me, you’ll be glad you did. You can also find more beautiful images of terrariums Megan has done on her Instagram feed. I’ve been following her for quite a while now and I love seeing her new posts! Megan also has a beautiful Etsy shop where she sells terrarium supplies, terrarium kits, air plants and more.
